How to Fix CapCut Project Transfer From Windows to Mac

Move a CapCut project from Windows to a Mac by fixing the OS tag and file paths in its JSON files, then renaming two files so it opens.

This fix is for moving a CapCut desktop project from Windows to a Mac. The project files store Windows-style paths and an OS tag, so you change those values to Mac paths, then rename two files.

Fix the project files for macOS

  1. Copy the whole project folder into CapCut's projects folder on your Mac. In the example from the original fix, that folder is /Users/user/Movies/CapCut/User Data/Projects/com.lveditor.draft/. Replace user with your own macOS username.
  2. Open draft_content.json and draft_meta_info.json in a plain text editor.
  3. Use find and replace to change "os": "windows" to "os": "mac". You should see two or three of these lines.
  4. Find every "path" value that starts with C:/ and change the start to /Users/. For example, "C:/Users/..." becomes "/Users/...".
  5. Look for paths with double backslashes, like "C:\\Users\\...". Change them to normal Mac paths with forward slashes.
  6. Open the timelines folder, then the folder named with your project's ID. Make the same OS and path changes in the draft_content.json file inside it.
  7. Optional: if CapCut can't find your media, create a folder named Data inside the project folder and move your media files into it. Then point the paths in the files to that folder. Timeline and cache paths live in these files too, so change them one at a time and save after each change. That way, a typo won't break the whole project.
  8. In the main project folder, rename draft_content.json to draft_info.json.
  9. Rename the draft_content.json file inside timelines/<your ID>/ to draft_info.json.
  10. Open CapCut on your Mac and open the project. If CapCut asks you to relink any files, relink them.

Check the capital letters in folder names

Mac file systems are case-sensitive. If a folder name starts with a capital letter, write it the same way in the path. Windows doesn't care about case, so a path with the wrong capitals can look fine on Windows and still fail on a Mac.

FAQ

Why does the project still fail after I change the paths?

Mac folder names are case-sensitive, so a folder that starts with a capital letter must be written with that same capital letter in the path. Check every path against the real folder names.
